On Sunday I had to go home and leave the twins in the NICU. It was sooo hard but when we left we received great news that the twins were moving to a step down unit in the nicu where they were free from oxygen and iv s and as soon as Jacob was off the billyrubin lights for slight jaundice they would even be able to co bed. Jacob had caught up with Madison and they were both feeding through a bottle or breast and were doing awesome. They would be coming home soon.
Then today we walked into to the NICU all excited to finally see them in the same room together and possibly in the same bed. We were met my the nurse and head doctor of the NICU to say that Jacob had to be moved to the more intensive unit again. They found blood in his stool this morning. They suspected an infection in his bowels and bloodwork confirmed this. He also is getting x rays every 6 hours. The first two xrays showed the same thing only a small distended bowel which is common with an infection. This was so scary and sad to hear this news. He will not be able to nipple feed for at least a week and will only get iv s.
The good news is: the doctor says he isn't looking at all or acting at all like a ,a baby with this sort of infection, they caught it early, he is receiving x rays every 6 hours to make sure it is getting better or not progressing, he is getting bloodwork every day to see if it is getting better, a blood culture will show us in a few days what the infection is.
Madison doesn't have the infection and is doing great she even breastfed for 20 min. today :). She will probably be coming home soon but they never want to get your hopes up so they will never give us an estimated day. As an example what happened with Jacob.
Even before we left yesterday the nurses said remember with babies it's usually a step forward and then a few steps back. I guess this is what happened today.
I was so upset when I heard this because he is so little and fragile and it's so hard not to go to a negative place. I am trying to stay positive and hope for improvement every day.
They are both so beautiful and special and we can't wait to have both of them at home with Taylor and have all of you meet them :).

You are all in our prayers especially Jacob and Madison. We will say a special prayer for Jacob to heal quickly and get to go home to be with his family. I am so happy to hear that Madison was able to breastfeed. That is AWESOME! I can't wait for the little ones to be home with their big sister. Give Taylor a big hug from her friend, Jacob and me!

these babies are so strong because of what you did to get them to be so big and healthy.
